If there's one part of the everyday makeup routine that sometimes trips me up, it's bronzer. For example, earlier this week I was testing out a new bronzer, and not only was it too orange and too dark on me for this time of year, but I also over-applied it . . . so I kind of had the Oompa Loompa look going on. It was not good. (*Note to self: Wait until later in the summer to use that bronzer.)

One of my favorite bronzers to use no matter what season it is is Benefit's Hoola Matte Bronzer. After seeing their revamped Hoola campaign this spring (along with a slew of new Hoola products, such as a liquid bronzer and a body bronzer), I decided to give mine another go in my everyday makeup drawer this month. Hoola, while it looks dark in the box, is actually quite a sheer and buildable formula, so if you're pale like me and don't want to go overboard, you don't need to worry too much about making the same mistake I did earlier. On the flip side, though, if you're darker and looking for more about a punch, it's easy to build the bronze layers. It's also a great bronzer for mature skin because it is a matte formula. I think it's one of the most universally flattering bronzers out there, and if you haven't had the chance to try it yet, you should. (Here's a $15 travel size that will get your feet wet.)
