Beauty empties

IMG_0336

I love the feeling of having used a product up in its entirety, whether it’s wearing a pair of boots until the sole begins to tear away from the leather or finishing up that bottle of shower gel that you’ve had forever. There’s something satisfying about knowing you got your money’s worth out of a product.

Here are a few beauty products I’ve recently used up, and rather than throw them away immediately, I thought I’d share with you a few quick thoughts on how they stacked up and if I’d repurchase them again or not. (See more of my beauty empties here.)

  • Becca Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector: One of my biggest beauty blunders is an oily t-zone; I’m always trying to combat the oil. This primer is the best — hands down. It lasts almost all day, and after using it nearly daily for a year and a half I finally ran out. Excuse me while I run to Sephora to restock.
  • Lancôme La Base Pro: If you like silicone primers, this one from Lancôme is for you. It’s pricey, though, in the full size, and I feel there are many comparable primers out there that are less expensive. (Ask for a sample — that’s what I did!)
  • Kate Somerville ExfoliKate: I’ve started to incorporate exfoliators into my skin care routine. This one is a favorite (and somehow I’ve managed to get multiple deluxe samples of it). It smells like pickles. I’m not kidding. It’s bright green and such a fine exfoliant that it’d be great for sensitive skin, too.
  • Skinn Olive & Enzyme Cleanser: I’ve stepped away from using makeup-removing towelettes consistently, and I blame this stuff. It’s actually a thick liquid you apply on top of your makeup and rub in to remove your makeup. It does such a good job, and while I have a few other similar products to run through first before I repurchase, this one is at the top of my list to buy again.
  • Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer: I’ve had multiple samples of this, and this primer is unlike any other primer I’ve tried. It gives a very smooth finish to foundation, but the full size is pricey. Again, I feel like there are other primers that can get the job done, but if you’re into mineral makeup, this primer would be the one for you. Just prepare for your wallet to take a major hit.
  • Hourglass Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation: I love, love, love this foundation. It was great for my combination skin (I tend to be oily in my t-zone and normal on my cheeks), and it’s supposed to be good for your skin and prevent breakouts, which I feel my skin has never looked better when I was using this. Make sure you apply this stuff with a brush or your fingertips — don’t use it with a sponge. I have two major complaints about this foundation: the price and the color range. I bought the lightest shade, but I had to save it for warmer weather when my skin was ever-so-slightly darker. I’d never be able to use it in the winter months.
  • Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil: This is the oil that started it all. It works on hair, face, body — and this stuff is good. I have a sample of the light version to try next. You can read my thoughts on beauty oils here. I’m trying out other oils before I decide which one I want to repurchase, but this one is definitely worth either asking for a sample of or grabbing a mini bottle of.
  • Caudalie Divine Oil: I liked the results of this oil, which I used as moisturizer on my legs after I showered. I bought a mini version to try because the full size is fairly expensive. I feel as though there are many drugstore dupes out there that are much more affordable. And they’d probably smell better, too; this particular oil was not my favorite scent in the world.
  • Stila HD Illuminating Beauty Balm: In the mornings, I like to mix my moisturizer with sunscreen and illuminator/highlighter to give my face a glow. This stuff had more tint than it did illumination, which disappointed me. Luckily, this was a freebie sample, and I will instead be repurchasing a highlighter or illuminator that gives me more of a glow.

In love with mustard
