Hi.

I'm Caitlin Wilson, a twenty-something midwesterner with a penchant for neutrals, donuts, and makeup. Thanks for reading!

October beauty favorites

For me, October was all about a darker, vampier lip. I think darker lipsticks are a bit too high-maintenance for me, which is why I’ve relied heavily on these products: Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Berry, Tarte LipSurgence Lip Tint in Moody and bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss in Dare Devil. They’re sheer enough to look fairly natural (sort of a your-lips-but-darker look) and lightweight enough that I’m not obsessively checking to make sure they haven’t smudged or gotten patchy.

When I’m not going vampy with my lips, I’m playing up my eyes with warm, coppery shadows. Target has been killing it in the makeup department lately, and I’ve discovered some real gems that you need to pick up — stat. Sonia Kashuk’s Eye Couture Eye Palette in Eye On Neutral 02 is a great alternative to the Urban Decay Naked Basics palettes, but with a great range of shadows and less expensive. I use this every day — no joke. While the Sonia Kashuk palette is very matte and natural, Pixi Mesmerizing Mineral Palette in Copper Peach is shimmery and warm. These shadows are surprisingly creamy, buttery and pigmented and well worth a trip to Target to check out one of the palettes (that come in four other color schemes).

My skin has definitely become drier with the cooler weather, so I’ve been reaching for creamy products that will provide a healthy, moisturizing glow. My go-to foundation has been Revlon’s Color Stay Whipped Creme Makeup; I like to apply it with a beautyblender, which gives it a flawless, high-coverage finish. For blush, Tarte Cheek Stain in Exposed has seen a lot of play time. It’s a darker blush than what I normally go for, without a lot of pink in it, which makes it very fall-appropriate. I found Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Crème colour concentrate in John Doe is the perfect contour; it’s a unique color, almost gray, but looks so natural on my very pale skin. For the finishing touch and that little bit of glow, I turn to Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Rose Gold — a great touch of warmth on those cloudy fall days.

I’d love to know: What beauty products were your go-to’s this past month?
