I’m always hesitant about wearing a cape at a university in Indiana. In a bigger city, I would surely feel less conspicuous wearing something slightly unconventional. But if you were surrounded by cornfields and the comment you received from everyone when you wear a skirt is, “Do you have a presentation today?” when you didn’t, you’d be a little doubtful, too. Oh, the things we do for fashion. Here’s the breakdown:
Cape: Gift from my roommate
Skirt: J.Crew via Goodwill
Bag: Brahmin (c/o Vogue)
Overall this look is fairly simple — minimal accessories, lots of brown and classic, structured pieces. What makes this look one of my favorites, though, is twofold: the pop of color in both the skirt and the print of the shirt, and the mix of textures between the corduroy of the skirt, the slight tweed of the cape, and the worn leather of the booties. Simply truly can be the best sometimes.
