FBFF: Outside Influences
This is the first time I’ve done FBFF in awhile, and I must say that I’ve missed answering the questions! This week is all about our outside influences; a few weeks ago, we answered questions about what we’re influenced by, but as Katy told us in the questions for this week, there are other things than celebrities and fellow bloggers who inspire us. If you’d like to participate in FBFF, find out more on Katy’s blog, Modly Chic.
- What magazines do you subscribe to?
I subscribe to Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, InStyle, Lucky, and People StyleWatch. Currently, my favorite is Elle; they have an amazing accessories section. I love reading Harper’s Bazaar because of its high fashion spin, and I love reading the other three magazines for the opposite - the wearability of the outfits shown in them.
- Do you watch any fashion TV shows?
Project Runway is definitely a favorite of mine, although I wish it was on more often. I think they should make it twice as long so we’ll have twice as many shows per season. I also love watching reruns of The City because of Whitney Port and Olivia Palermo. Other than those two, I consistently watch America’s Next Top Model, The Rachel Zoe Project and Ugly Betty.
- Beyond blogs, what websites do you frequent for fashion inspiration?
WhoWhatWear, Elle, StyleCaster, InStyle, FabSugar, PopSugar, People, The Zoe Report
- Advertisements play a huge role in forming public opinion about a product or a brand. What ads do you like and why?
I love Michael Kors ads, no matter what season. I find that my eye is always drawn to these ads in magazines because of the clarity of the photography and the clean, minimalism of his clothing. I always rip his ads out to keep in my portfolio. I also love Chanel’s new makeup ads for their new Rouge Coco lipsticks. The makeup is fresh and dewy, and I always want to emulate that look.
- Do you own any fashion books?
I own two: Style A to Zoe by Rachel Zoe and Lauren Conrad Style by Lauren Conrad. I received Rachel Zoe’s book quite a few years ago, hardly knowing anything about her. Since then, I’ve become obsessed with her TV show and her clothing line. She has amazing taste and a great vintage collection. I bought Lauren Conrad’s book back in February because I love her laid-back style and her girl-next-door attitude.
