FBFF: Yes, I am Type A

I’m pretty excited for today’s Fashion Beauty Friend Friday, courtesy of Katy at ModlyChic (fellow fashion bloggers, you can join here). It’s all about how we prepare our outfits, which I love doing. Check out the methods behind my madness!

1. How do you determine what you will wear that day?

I actually pick out my outfits the night before. If I don’t, I’m sure to be at a loss of what to wear in the morning, so picking out my outfit the night before guarantees I won’t waste time in the morning. I always check the weather first. If it’s raining or snowing, leather and suede are out. If it’s sunny, that means a lighter-weight sweater.

2. Do you plan outfits out in advance for a whole week, month, weekend?

Yes and no. I’m always thinking of what I’m wearing for the week, so if an idea comes to me and I want to wear it later on in the week, I’ll typically make myself a little reminder. I definitely don’t plan for a whole month because often, my outfits depend on my mood and the weather. If I’m going away for the weekend, then I’ll definitely have my outfits picked out ahead of time, otherwise I’d be totally guilty of over-packing.

3. Do you have any specific way of tracking outfits and items already worn so you don’t repeat?

This is going to sound totally false, but I’m really good at just remembering what I have in my closet and what I’ve already worn. If I’m worried about repeating an outfit (which really isn’t that big of a deal in the first place), I can always look back at my blog.

4. How do you discover new combinations of items in your closet? (Trial try-ons? Hanging items together?)

Sometimes it just happens that things are hung up together in my closet, and I think to myself, “Dang, I am genius for hanging those two up together…accidentally.” But I definitely hang items together to see if they’ll work, and if I’m a little iffy, I’ll try them on. I sometimes take a look at my inspiration books and build my outfit around that.

5. To streamline the process for 2011, what is one new thing you can do to cut down your dressing time?

Well, I’d love to have a bigger closet at college, but seeing as how that’ll never happen, I’ll have to make due with making my system of clothes more organized and actually keeping them organized. I have my closet organized as skirts, dress pants, blazers (hung up with blouses and vests underneath), and dresses, as well as all of my shoes. I keep my jeans and some sweaters in my dresser. Then underneath my bed, I have tubs: four big tubs and five small tubs. The big tubs are divided into loungewear/workout clothes, cardigans, sweaters, and long-sleeved tees. These get pretty unorganized, though, so keeping these organized would definitely help me cut down on my dressing time. Sounds like the perfect project for the rest of interterm!
